Worship Services
Journey Worship | Sunday, 8:45 am
An interactive, energetic service for those seeking a fresh encounter with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our theme this month is What’s Next. Pastor Patrice will preach from 1 John 3:1–3.
Sanctuary Worship | Sunday, 11 am
Our largest service, with music from the Chancel Choir and an organ prelude prior to the service. Pastor Randy will deliver our scripture lesson, Mark 9:38–50, and his sermon will be titled “Arguments & Answers: Being Worthy.”
If you’re out of town and/or unable to join us for worship, follow us on Facebook to receive a notification when we go live so that you can watch this week’s sermon.
Taizé Prayer Service | Wednesday, 7 pm
Led by the Rev. Mary Lynn Callahan, our hour-long Taizé service includes sung prayers; simple, beautiful music; a time of silence; spoken and silent prayers; and an opportunity for individual prayer and anointing. If you’re unable to participate in person, join our live stream on your computer or mobile device.
Christian Education Classes
We offer Christian Education classes for persons of all ages, from infancy through adulthood, on Sundays from 9:45–10:45 am. Click the links for adult class descriptions and children and youth offerings.
Contemporaries | McKelvy Room
Theology for Presbyterians: Jesus Christ
We confess Jesus as the “Christ” and “the Word made flesh”—one person with two natures: divine and human. How does the cross embody our belief and empower us to live faithfully?
Journey With Scripture | Second Floor Library
“Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all”—Mark 9:35. This fall’s readings reach into the wisdom tradition of scripture—its affirmation of “lived experience” as opposed to it being diminished by “religious belief.” Ultimately, scripture arcs to the incomprehensible wisdom of life lived in, and attached to, Jesus Christ. Jesus affirms our lived experience, yet in him, the world’s wisdom gets turned upside down. Strangely, we gain unimagined abundant life serving this world.
Join us for this week’s readings: Esther 7:1–10; 9:20–22; Psalm 124; James 5:13–20; and Mark 9:38–50.
Seekers | Garth Overlook Room
The Poet Rumi: Selections and Islamic Insights
Aliya Khan from the Muslim Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh will lead us in a discussion about Rumi, the 13th-century Persian Sunni Muslim poet.
Soul Food | Good Samaritan Room (G12)
We will begin discussing chapter two of Surrender to Love by David Benner, led by the Rev. Joe Hajdu, Steve Evrard, David Carl, and Katlyn Dougherty.
