Here’s what’s happening in worship this week.
Worship Services
Journey Worship | Sunday, at 8:45 am
An interactive, energetic service for those seeking a fresh encounter with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our theme this month is Joy. Pastor Patrice will preach from Romans 12:9–21.
Sanctuary Worship | Sunday, at 11 am
Our largest service, with music from the Chancel Choir and an organ prelude prior to the service. Pastor Randy will preach from John 16:4b–15, and his sermon will be titled “Closing Arguments.”
Taizé Stations of the Cross | Wednesday, at 7 pm
An hour-long service including sung prayers; simple, beautiful music; a time of silence; spoken and silent prayers; and an opportunity for individual prayer and anointing. The Rev. Mary Lynn Callahan will lead this service of sung Taizé prayer. Stay afterward for Contemplative Prayer.
Christian Education Classes
We offer Christian Education classes for persons of all ages, from infancy through adulthood, on Sundays from 9:45–10:45 am. Click the links for adult class descriptions and children and youth offerings.
Contemporaries | Second Floor Parlor
The Beatitudes
Pastor Heather will lead us as we begin a two-week series on the Beatitudes. What does it mean to be blessed? What is righteousness?
Journey With Scripture | Second Floor Library
“The Lord is king! Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundations of his throne”—Psalm 97:1–2. How is God so obscured yet so transparent? And how does the risen Lord assure the church of the continual presence and rule of this just God in a violent world? How do we gauge any leadership? Join us in May as we read Scripture and ponder such questions.
This week, Jan Irvin will lead us. Our readings are: Proverbs 8:1–4, 22–31; Psalm 8; Romans 5:1–5; and John 16:12–15.
Seekers | Room 234
What is Protestant Fundamentalism?
Fundamentalism is a difficult term to define. Mark Blank will lead a discussion attempting to find a definition of fundamentalism, with an eye on the fascinating history that has shaped American Christianity.
Soul Food | Third Floor Music Room
This week, Joe Hajdu, Steve Evrard, and Reed Williams will lead a discussion of a daily meditation by Fr. Richard Rohr. Printed copies will be provided.
