Choral and Organ Music of Maurice Duruflé with the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh
October 11, 2015 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Co-presented by the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and ELPC’s Cathedral Concerts.
Betsy Burleigh, conductor
Edward Alan Moore, organ
The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh‘s 2015-2016 season opens with a performance of Maurice Duruflé‘s soulful Requiem, conducted by Music Director Betsy Burleigh. Duruflé completed the Requiem in 1947, and dedicated the piece to the memory of his father. He incorporated themes from Gregorian chant into the Requiem, with an emphasis on the Gregorian “Mass for the Dead.” This concert marks Betsy Burleigh’s final performance as Music Director of the Mendelssohn Choir.
Also featured on the concert will be one of Duruflé’s greatest works for solo organ, the Prelude, Adagio, and Choral Variations on “Veni Creator Spiritus”.
This event is free for all members of the ELPC Community. Please contact Dr. Ed Moore for more information on obtaining your complimentary tickets.
