Hope Academy teaching artist and EL CEO conductor, Federico Garcia, is also the artistic director of the New Music ensemble, Alia Musica. They will be performing their final Spring 2010 concert on Thursday, April 8 at 7 pm at Synod Hall, and you are invited. One of Mr. Garcia’s compositions will be performed and he will also be conducting.
So, if you’re thinking to yourself, “this sounds great, but what is New Music?” don’t bother trying to google an answer… a layman’s definition doesn’t seem to exist — even on Wikipedia. You’ve just got to go to the concert to find out for yourself. Don’t like to take chances? OK. Check out the video below for a sample of one kind of New Music performed by Alia Musica. This piece also features Hope Academy teaching artists Lisa Joseph (violin) and Ana Diaz (cello). Need more of an incentive? Hope Academy students and members of East Liberty Presbyterian Church are admitted FREE! Tickets for Hope Academy parents are only $10 (regularly $15). Just email Federico Garcia to let him know how many tickets you would like and he will leave them at the door for you. Hope to see you there!
