About the Performance
For the Girl Who Sleeps in Snow is an excerpt from a longer physical theater piece created by Meredith Hoppe, Michael Walsh, Darrell Kinsel, Sophia Levine, Michael Chapman, Linda Addlespurger, Anqwenique Wingfield and Tracksploitation’s Jordan Taylor. Based on a poetic piece of text, For the Girl Who Sleeps in Snow explores how we survive in a dangerous world. Whether the “end of the world as we know it” comes in the form of a hurricane, nuclear explosion, zombie attack, divorce or death of a loved one, the ways we prepare for and deal with disaster are the same. Should we have a plan or wish for the best? Stock up on supplies or dance as the sky crashes down? Bug In or Bug Out?
The piece will be performed twice during Relative Positions, at 8:30 and 9:00 pm. Meet at the door to the pottery studio, in the alley behind the Union Project, where you will be given a flashlight and instructions.
If you can’t make it this weekend, don’t fret! We are continuing our work on a full-length version of For the Girl Who Sleeps in Snow which will be presented at East Liberty Presbyterian Church this September. Stay tuned and join the For the Girl Who Sleeps in Snow facebook page for updates about our second performance this fall!
More About Relative Positions
Over twenty artists – choreographers, dancers, actors, musicians, writers/poets, visual and installation artists – were commissioned to create work in the Union Project. Each artist, or group of artists, will present a 5-20 minute piece to be performed on a loop through the evening. The tours will be semi-guided for the audience to experience the space and the artists in a comfortable explorative way. Audiences have a choice in their experience and can stay in one area to view one piece multiple times, or move through the venue at their own pace.
