We will look at these three short videos tomorrow. The first, “From Haunts of Coot and Hen,” is performed by Pilobolus. The second, “The Ostrich,” is performed by Charles Moore and choreographed by Asadata Defora (1932). The third, “Beach Birds for Camera,” is choreographed by Merce Cunningham with music by John Cage.
While all three pieces are inspired by the imagery of birds/animals, each uses a very different movement sensibility; Pilobolus and Cunningham have a contemporary/modern aesthetic, in contrast with “The Ostrich,” with its reliance on more traditional African dance. Staycee Pearl.
