PITTSBURGH PUBLIC THEATER’S SHAKESPEARE MONOLOGUE AND SCENE CONTEST SHOWCASE OF FINALISTS
Twenty-seven Hope Academy acting students competed—virtually—for this year’s Pittsburgh Public Theater Shakespeare Contest. In the process, they learned how to be their own lighting and sound designers, tech directors, and stage managers to create their video submissions. Out of the more than 600 students who competed from across the region, Hope Academy had three students selected to perform in the Showcase of Finalists.
- Sidra Bandy as Ariel, for her monologue from The Tempest
- Suraya Collins as Juliet, and Zora Rose as the Nurse, for their scene from Romeo and Juliet
The Showcase of Finalists will be broadcast on YouTube on Monday, February 22, 7 pm, and is available at no charge, with registration at www.PPT.ORG/SHOWCASE
The event will be hosted by Joe Serafini, a Pittsburgh native currently starring as Seb on the hit Disney+ original series, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. And judging this year’s Showcase of Finalists are: Tony Bingham, Sharon Eberson, Carter Redwood, Tamara Tunie, and the Public’s Artistic Director, Marya Sea Kaminski.

HOPE ACADEMY’S VIRTUAL SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL – Saturday, April 10 at 6:00pm
Save the date for our own Virtual Shakespeare Festival where you can watch all of our fabulous students perform their monologues and scenes – and some other fun Shakespeare-related creations. This will be an international festival, since some of our students have moved, or temporarily relocated, during the pandemic.
Congratulations to all of the students who participated and we are looking forward to sharing our work with you in April.
