Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Fiddlesticks Concert

Ages 3 – 8 with parents

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16 at 8 pm – Heinz Hall
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra invites you to join us for a BNY Mellon Grand Classics performance featuring Sibelius’ soaring Symphony No. 2, Mennin’s powerful “Moby Dick” and  A Women’s Life— a world-premiere work by PSO Composer of the Year Richard Danielpour — on this Friday, October 16. Danielpour’s work is a cycle of seven songs based on poems by one of the great voices of contemporary literature, Maya Angelou.  A Woman’s Life includes text from Angelou’s poems that show the trajectory of a woman’s life, from childhood to old age. Internationally renowned American conductor Leonard Slatkin leads the orchestra in this world premiere performance of the work, which was commissioned by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra. And, the highly acclaimed soprano Angela Brown lends her sheer vocal power to bring the words of Angelou’s poetry to life in song.  Click here more information about the concert.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17 at 8 pm – Kelly-Strayhorn Theater

I Am Artist: Bad Seeds. An evening of song, dance, and complete impertinence. The members of the Alumni Theater Company are bratty, arrogant, lazy, conceited, complacent, selfish and entirely unashamed.  Hip hop, Broadway, and pop culture meld together in this energetic and reflective musical revue.  ATC’s talented cast members somehow find a way to make degenerate look good. This show is appropriate for ages 12 and up.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24 at 11:15 am – Heinz Hall
Fiddlesticks concert for children ages 3 – 8. Cross continents throughout this concert by exploring the music of different countries. Listen to songs inspired by traditions of various cultures. Enjoy Bizet’s “Toreador Song” from Carmen, Strauss’ Bauern Polka and a traditional Japanese song entitled Sakura as well as other favorites. Enhance your child’s musical journey with “Discovery Time Adventures”! Beginning at 10:00 am throughout Heinz Hall meet PSO musicians, sing along with guest artists, create a musical passport & dance and move to world beats and rhythms.
