Just the FAQs: Recital Etiquette and Schedule for May 22, 2016

Quinn at PianoRecitals are special occasions designed to give students a chance to share their music and gain valuable performance experience. They provide a benchmark to measure growth from year to year, and an incentive for students to practice and polish pieces they are working on.

There will be many recital sessions scheduled throughout the day in various rooms throughout the church building. Please do not ask to have your child perform at the beginning or the end of their recital session – students and families are expected to be on time and stay for the entire recital that their children are performing in. We are organizing the recital sessions to be about an hour long.

Learning about and practicing recital etiquette is an important part of a student’s musical education, so we ask that families read and discuss these guidelines with their children.

An interactive, energetic service for those seeking a fresh encounter with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our theme this month is Joy. Pastor Randy will preach from Genesis 11:1–9. Communion will be celebrated.

Sanctuary Worship | Sunday, at 11 am
Our largest service, with music from the Chancel Choir and an organ prelude prior to the service. Pastor Heather will preach from Acts 2:14–21 and her sermon will be titled, “Why are We Here?” Communion will be celebrated and we will receive the Pentecost Offering. Everyone is invited to wear red or colorful clothes as we we rejoice in the Spirit’s energizing, fiery presence in our lives. Our Confirmation Class also will be received as adult members of our church.

This Week in Worship: April 29–May 5, 2016

As a reminder, there will be no Journey or Sanctuary worship services, or Church School classes this Sunday, May 1, due to the Pittsburgh Marathon. Our regular worship and class schedule will resume next Sunday, May 8.

Worship Services

Blessing of the Bikes | Saturday, at 1:30 pm
Rejoicing in God’s beautiful creation and seeking to promote healthy, sustainable lifestyles, ELPC will host a Blessing of the Bikes service. People are encouraged to ride their bikes to ELPC and gather on the Penn Avenue side for a time of prayer, dedication, and celebration. Non-bike riders are welcome!

Participants of all ages can take part in a short ride up to Highland Park and back. There also will be refreshments available after the blessing service, and representatives from BikePittsburgh and the “Healthy Ride” BikeShare programs will be present.

Join us for this special intergenerational, congregational event.
