Spiritual direction is the practice of accompanying another in their own attentiveness to the movement of God, the Sacred or the Holy within themselves and their everyday, ordinary lives. The practice involves silence, listening, reflection and discernment. In spiritual direction, the directee is the authority and holds the wisdom to their own spiritual life and journey; learning to attend to and trust their inner teacher (Jeremiah 31:33–34; John 14:26).
Personally, I love the image of the “Third Chair,”where God—the Spirit, the Divine, and the Holy—is the true director in our time together.
