Church School Classes | November 28, 2021

November 23, 2021

Here’s a list of what’s happening this week in our Church School classes. We offer Christian Education classes for persons of all ages, from infancy through adulthood, on Sundays, 9:45–10:45 am, unless otherwise noted. Read more about our adult classes and children and youth offerings.

Church School for Kids | Courtyard

Church School for kids in pre-school through grade 5 will be on break until after Christmas. Keep a look out for Mission Month, Advent activities, and the Christmas Pageant which your family can participate in at home or at the church.

Church School for Youth | Play Yard

Youth in grades 6–12 will meet in person to explore faith questions through scripture, discussion, activities, and prayer. All students and teachers will be masked. A registration form is required for all participants. Forms can be found online or at ELPC.

Journey with Scripture | Fellowship Room and Zoom

“There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female, for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.”—Galatians 3:28

Our focus on the P’s and Q’s of Scripture continues with readings from the Psalms, the prophets, Paul’s letters, and Q (sayings of Jesus from the Gospels of Luke and Matthew).

Join us for this week’s readings: Psalm 119:89–96; Amos 9:5–10; Luke (Q) 9:57–62 (Confronting Potential Followers); Galatians 4:21–31. Contact Sara Hackett for Zoom information.

Parenting Circle | Harambe Room and Zoom

This fall, we will be discussing The Sandbox Revolution: Raising Kids for a Just World. This collection of essays and discussion questions invites parents to call upon their collective wisdom to “wrestle with the questions, navigate the challenges, offer concrete practices, and remind parents of the sacredness of the works. Written by parents who also are writers, pastors, teachers, organizers, artists, gardeners, and activists, this anthology offers diverse experiences on topics that include education, money, anti-racism, resistance, spirituality, disability justice, and Earth care.”

If you would like a copy of the book, contact the Rev. Heather Schoenewolf.

Seekers | Garth Overlook Room and Zoom

The Ethics in Context of Paul Tillich | World War II and the Bomb
We will continue our series led by ELPC Elder Ron Stone and guided by his new book, The Ethics of Paul Tillich. This week, we will examine Tillich’s critique of Hitler and white racism, encouraging the U.S. in the war after his exile, and how ethics were developed in response to the bomb.

Contact Gwen Puza for Zoom details.

Soul Food | Good Samaritan Room and Zoom

We will be reading and discussing the Seventh Commandment with No Other Gods: The Politics of the Ten Commandments, by Ana Levy-Lyons. New participants are welcome, online or by phone. If you’re interested in joining our class, email the Rev. Joe Hajdu.
