This Week in Worship: April 24–30, 2015

April 22, 2015

Here’s what’s happening in worship this week.

Worship Services

Journey Worship | Sunday, at 8:45 am
An interactive, energetic service for those seeking a fresh encounter with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our theme this month is Mirror Images. The Rev. Heather Schoenewolf will preach from Luke 24:36b–48.

Sanctuary Worship | Sunday, at 11 am
Our largest service, with music from the Chancel Choir and an organ prelude prior to the service. The Rev. Heather Schoenewolf will preach. Her sermon will be entitled “What are you looking at?” based on Luke 24:36b–48.

Taizé | Wednesday, at 7 pm
An hour-long service including sung prayers; simple, beautiful music; a time of silence; spoken and silent prayers; and an opportunity for individual prayer and anointing. The Rev. Mary Lynn Callahan will lead worship. This week’s after-Taizé class will feature celebrations!

Christian Education Classes

We offer Christian Education classes for persons of all ages, from infancy through adulthood, on Sundays from 9:45–10:45 am. Click the links for adult class descriptions and children and youth offerings.

Contemporaries | Second Floor Parlor
Enough: God’s Blessing in Abundance
Explore dimensions of what it means to have enough through parables of Jesus and other biblical references. Author Laura Mendenhall encourages students to look at what is really most important to have in life—God’s blessings, which are in abundance for us. This six-week study is part of our Being Reformed: Faith Seeking Understanding series.

This week, Carolyn Russ will lead our lesson, Enough to Make a Difference, based on Luke 10:25–37.

Journey With Scripture | Second Floor Library
Peace be with you (John 20:19). In the Gospel of John, shortly after his betrayal, arrest, abandonment, and humiliating public execution, the risen Jesus unexpectedly enters the private, secured space of distressed followers and imparts upon them peace, continued purpose, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus loves them at the very heart of their need—in their alienation and hurt. Can such love be experienced in the distressful spaces of our lives? Join us for an April class of Easter readings:

This week, our readings are Acts 4:5–12; Ps 23; 1 John 3:16–24; and John 10:11–18.

Seekers | Room 234
The Templin’s Mission Work in Ethiopia
Presbyterians Pat and Carl Templin will continue telling us about their inspiring 11 years of work among the Anuak people in Ethiopia, and the religions of Ethiopia.

Soul Food | Room 244 and Pastor’s Conference Room
We will continue our discussion of Traveling Your Road to Joy. New participants are always welcome!

YAM Church School | Session Room
Theology: How We Envision God
YAM Church School returns today, led by Pastor Randy! How do we put in words the nature and the mystery of the Holy?
