Here’s what’s happening in worship this week. Click on “more” for details about this week’s Church School classes.
Worship Services
Journey Worship | Sunday, 8:45 am
An interactive, energetic service for those seeking a fresh encounter with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our theme this month is Re-Building. Pastor Heather will preach. We also will celebrate Communion.
Sanctuary Worship | Sunday, 11 am
Our largest service, with music from the Chancel Choir and an organ prelude prior to the service. Pastor Randy will preach from Mark 10:17–27, and his sermon will be titled “Arguments & Answers: Being Good.” On this special Sunday, we will partake of the bread and cup at the Table as we celebrate World Communion Sunday, and also receive the Peace & Global Witness Offering.
If you’re out of town and/or unable to join us for worship, follow us on Facebook to receive a notification when we go live so that you can watch this week’s sermon.
Taizé Prayer Service | Wednesday, 7 pm
Led by the Rev. Mary Lynn Callahan, our hour-long Taizé service includes sung prayers; simple, beautiful music; a time of silence; spoken and silent prayers; and an opportunity for individual prayer and anointing. If you’re unable to participate in person, join our live stream on your computer or mobile device.
Christian Education Classes
We offer Christian Education classes for persons of all ages, from infancy through adulthood, on Sundays from 9:45–10:45 am. Click the links for adult class descriptions and children and youth offerings.
Contemporaries | McKelvy Room
Theology for Presbyterians: The Bible
Just because Presbyterians don’t always interpret the Bible literally, doesn’t mean we don’t take it seriously! We will consider the Bible as the Word of God.
Journey With Scripture | Second Floor Library
“Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.”—Job 42:3
Our readings continue exploring the wisdom tradition in scripture. After contending with friends and God through a period of extensive suffering, Job lets go of some traditional perceptions about God. Radical new images of God and a far richer multipolar world emerge. Likewise, our world passes away—the new can emerge. Join us on this journey.
Join us for this week’s readings: Job 1:1, 2:1–10; Psalm 26; Hebrews 1:1–4, 2:5–12; and Mark 10:2–16.
Seekers | Garth Overlook Room
The Church and Community Development
Pastor Patrice and our guest Kendall Pelling (director of land recycling at East Liberty Development, Inc., and elder at Valley View Presbyterian Church) will lead our class and discuss the theological imperative for ELPC and other churches to be involved and engaged, especially in a changing community.
Soul Food | Good Samaritan Room (G12)
We will conclude our discussion of chapter two of Surrender to Love by David Benner, led by the Rev. Joe Hajdu, Michelle Bard, Shirley Fair, and Liz Gonda.
