On Sunday, January 20, 2019, ELPC will join Pittsburgh Presbytery in celebrating Freedom Rising Sunday.
Freedom Rising is the name of a ministry which originated in Pittsburgh, calling our denomination to work together to address the worsening plight of the African American male. The General Assembly of the PC(USA) adopted this overture in 2016, and Freedom Rising is being piloted in five cities, including Pittsburgh. A combined Church School class will be hosted by Contemporaries and Seekers, so that we can learn more Freedom Rising, and hear how we might actively engage in this important ministry. We will emphasize Freedom Rising Sunday in our Sanctuary worship service at 11 am, and will receive a Special Offering that will go directly to Pittsburgh Presbytery’s Freedom Rising Ministry.
