When does Hope Academy cancel classes and/or private lessons, and how will you know?
DURING THE WEEK (Tuesday – Friday)
Hope Academy follows the Pittsburgh Public School (PPS) cancellation policy when they close for the entire day due to inclement weather.
Please note that classes and private lessons are not necessarily canceled when PPS operates on a two-hour delay or when after school activities are canceled. Since Hope Acdemy’s classes and private lessons are scheduled during the late afternoon and evening hours on weekdays, inclement weather in the morning does not necessarily mean it will remain that way for the rest of the day.
If PPS does not cancel for the day and the weather takes a turn for the worse, Hope Academy’s director will make a judgment call based on the safety of teaching artists, students and families.
SATURDAYS
Hope Academy does not automatically follow anyone’s lead for Saturday cancellations. The decision will be made by Hope Academy’s director before 7 am on Saturday morning, or after that if the weather changes, and the cancellation notifications will be posted (see below).
Saturday cancellations are based on road conditions – not temperature.
PRIVATE LESSONS
Private lesson teachers may decide to cancel, on their own, if they will have difficulty getting in and/or if they have been notified that a majority of their students are unable to make their lessons. In this case, the teaching artist will contact families directly by phone or email.
Teaching artists and families must have each others contact information. Families are given a Private Lesson Trifold Brochure (for the day of the week they take their lesson on) that includes all of this information as well as their teacher’s phone number and email address.
Please do not leave messages for each other at the front desk of East Liberty Presbyterian Church or on Hope Academy’s voice mail.
