In the Neighbors Committee, we try to focus on helping people in need in our community with food, clothing, and housing. And we try to promote volunteerism, it’s good for the soul! What kinds of activities are you interest in?
If home remodeling is interesting, Open Hand Ministries has volunteer opportunities. We also have Chapel Market volunteer opportunities, which is a free clothing store at the church. If you speak Spanish, we have some shoppers who aren’t fluent in English. We also have teams that prepare and serve breakfasts on Sunday mornings and some dinners at East End Cooperative Ministries. There are gardening volunteer opportunities at Garfield Community Farm beginning in early spring and throughout the summer. If you have special skills, we can probably match you up with a neighborhood service organization.
Also, there are ESL classes in cooperation with Casa San José at the church that need volunteers. And are you aware of 412 Food Rescue and the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank? Both are great volunteer opportunities.
If any of these opportunities sound interesting, please contact Bob Forloines, Gerald McClendon, or anyone on Neighbors Committee.
