“We know that all things work together for good for those who love God…”—Romans 8:28
This scripture has been my prayer and affirmation throughout this year. Amidst the fear, sadness, and anger I sometimes feel towards our current government for how they are treating the least of these, I am still holding onto hope that soon, in God’s time, all things will indeed work together for good.
This summer proved that truth in an unexpected way. Because of needed repairs, we were not able to worship outside in the Garth. Many of you missed the beauty of sunshine and birdsong as part of our Sunday mornings. Yet gathering in the sanctuary gave us a surprise blessing: our Sunday summer attendance grew by 30%! More people came for worship and connection, friendships deepened, and our activism increased. May we never forget that God often shows up in places we do not plan, in ways we do not expect. Now, THAT is good news!
As we move into fall, we will continue working together for good and discovering God’s blessings in surprising places. In the weeks ahead, we will be reflecting on what it means to follow Jesus today. How do we journey faithfully on the path God sets for us? How do we strengthen our community and never waver in fighting for love and justice in the world?
Our Fall Kickoff Sunday on September 7 will launch a new season of ministry. The Journey service begins at 8:45am, and our Sanctuary service begins at 11am. Then, we will celebrate Visitor Sunday on September 14. Please invite a friend or neighbor to experience the warmth of beloved community. We’ll have a few special gifts that day as well.
Siblings in Christ, let’s open our hearts to unexpected blessings, trusting that God is already at work for good in our lives and in our church.
Blessings,
—Pastor Michael
