Worship & Music

Dr. Charles Huddleston Heaton
November 1, 1928 – June 11, 2021

A native of Centralia, Illinois, Charles Huddleston Heaton earned his Bachelor of Music degree at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, and his Master of Sacred Music and Doctor of Sacred Music degrees from Union Theological Seminary in New York, New York.

He served as ELPC’s organist/music director from 1972-1993.

A 90th birthday celebration concert in Dr. Heaton’s honor was held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Highland Park on November 3, 2018, with several local organists performing.  Dr. Edward Alan Moore represented East Liberty Presbyterian Church at the celebration, opening the concert by performing the Carillon-Sortie by Henri Mulet, playing from Dr. Heaton’s own score of the music.

Dr. Heaton began playing his Music Till Midnight concerts at the church in 1976. His recording of the same name was recorded during a live performance at East Liberty Presbyterian Church.

The CD booklet is available here: Music Till Midnight Booklet

The recording is available on YouTube: https://youtu.be/Hdx7Dcs9WF8
